The Orlando Magic need to trade Dwight Howard now! Although their record (18-11) is decent enough for them to be ranked 5th in the East, this team is in disarray and things will get much worse before ever getting better. There have been rumors of shouting in the locker room and when your best player publicly states he doesn’t want to be part of his current team, things can’t get much worse. Dwight wants to be on a title-contending team, which Orlando right now is not. The problem is, everyone in the league knows Dwight wants to leave and no GM in their right mind would help Orlando by dealing any player to the Magic without getting Dwight in return. This gives Orlando 1 option – trade Dwight.
Although Dwight wants to go to New Jersey, I think the best option which would help both teams equally would be a trade with the Lakers. The Lakers are in the same spot out West, sitting in the 5th position but behind some very talented young teams. They need a new energy and a change in chemistry just like Orlando.
Andrew Bynum is having an impressive year, but it’s obvious he’s not the same talent as Dwight. Howard is the reigning 3-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, averaging 20.2 points (10th), 15.2 rebounds (1st) and 2.1 blocks (5th) per game with 22 double-doubles for the season. A trade involving Dwight for Bynum, possibly another big like McRoberts and cash or future draft picks would be ideal for both teams. Dwight is still in his prime and could change the Lakers fate this season and many years to come. Bynum, although not the same talent as Dwight, is still in his prime and not a huge drop-off in talent – averaging 16.3 points, 12.6 rebounds (3rd), 2 blocks (7th) with 16 double-doubles of his own. Bynum, McRoberts and future draft picks or cash would also change the Magic’s chemistry, give them options to re-trade and possibly give them a shot at making a run at Miami and Chicago.
